What is a NightWatch?

A NightWatch is an emergency response solution designed to provide you with an increased level of safety and peace of mind, offering the ability to access emergency help from crisis-trained operators. In an emergency, operators will be able to access detailed information on your specific case or situation – and send the right level of help for you or your loved ones.

You can activate your NightWatch by pressing the emergency button in the event you feel threatened or are attacked.

How it Works

You can activate your NightWatch by pressing the emergency button in the event you feel threatened or are attacked.

When to Use Your NightWatch

  • If there is any indication you feel unsafe, or someone near you is in danger…
  • If you are being threatened or harassed…
  • If you are experiencing any form of intimidation…

Press the emergency button.

Using Your NightWatch

To contact emergency operators by activating your NightWatch, simply press the lower button on the side of the device. If you accidentally press the button, you will have seven (7) seconds to cancel the call by pressing the “X” on the lower half of the screen. If you cannot cancel the call, you can alert the operator that the call was placed accidentally by using your safe word (please refer to the “Safe Word” section).

Activating the Emergency Button

  1. After you press and hold the emergency button to activate an emergency call, you will feel short vibrations indicating the call is going through to the emergency operator.
  2. When the call has been connected to an emergency operator, you will feel one long vibration and see the “moon” icon change to the “sun” icon.  At that point, an operator is listening on the line to provide emergency help. For your safety, the operator will not speak initially until you tell them it is OK to talk to you.
  3. At that point, the NightWatch face will return to the analog/digital NightWatch face (see image below).
  4. If the operator hears signs of duress, they will contact local law enforcement on your behalf and send them to your location (based on the global positioning (GPS) coordinates of the NightWatch).
  5. If the operator hears nothing at all, they may attempt to speak to you.
  6. If it is safe to speak with the operator, inform the operator what is going on.

NOTE: Emergency operator facilities are equipped with Spanish-speaking operators.

Fall Detection

Your NightWatch is equipped with fall detection, which is enabled as a standard feature from the Samsung Health portfolio of services. This is an advanced sensor that detects your body movements. When it detects any hard fall, the watch will initiate an emergency call. As with an emergency button press, you will have 7 seconds to cancel this call.

Safe Word

At the time your device was provided to you, you chose a “safe word.” This will be used if you are not able to cancel the call during the 7 second count down and the call goes through to the emergency operator. When you feel the long vibration or see the sun icon on the watch face indicating the operator is on the line, communicate the safe word to let the operator know it’s safe to end the call.

You can simply say, “my safe word is apple, and I accidentally triggered a call. It is safe to disconnect.” This is the only way to effectively communicate to the operator that you are safe, and it is okay to end the call. If the call was non-accidental but the situation has been fully resolved, you can also communicate the safe word to the operator to end the call.

IMPORTANT: If you are not safe, but you are being told to hang up the call, give the operator the wrong safe word. They will then know you are in danger and send emergency help.

Intended Uses

The NightWatch has one sole purpose and that is to access emergency help. In order to maintain its security, it cannot download apps, pair with phones or other devices, or have its settings altered.

Communication With Emergency Response

Emergency Operator Protocol

Description of Activity:
An emergency call from the Nexion Solutions NightWatch device can be initiated under two scenarios:

  1. The end-user presses the emergency button; and/or
  2. The device detects a fall.

Upon connecting to the operator, please use the following as a guide:

If emergency call is successful:

The operator will LISTEN. If duress is assessed, they will request DISPATCH emergency services and NOTIFY your call list.

When they are LISTENING, if no duress is assessed, they may ASK if assistance is needed.

  • If you tell them no assistance is needed, they will VERIFY safe word and:
    1. DISPATCH emergency services if incorrect safe word is given and NOTIFY your call list
    2. DISCONNECT the call if the correct safe word is given
  • If they still hear nothing, they will DISPATCH emergency services to your location and NOTIFY your call list

If the emergency call fails, your device will vibrate twice quickly and show the “moon” icon on the watch face, indicating no active connection to the call center. You must then initiate the call again.

Tips: Wearing the NightWatch

  • Do not wear the device too tightly. Make sure to keep the device clean and dry. Though this device has met international safety standards, some people may experience skin irritation if they are allergic to certain substances.
  • Do not switch out the band as it may cause connectivity problems in areas with weak signals or poor reception. If you need a size change for the band or band replacement, please contact Nexion Solutions tech support at 844-NIGHT10 (844-644-4810).

Tips: Charging

  • If there are obstructions between the NightWatch and the wireless charging dock, the NightWatch may not charge properly. Prevent the NightWatch and the wireless charger from coming into contact with sweat, liquids, or dust.
  • When the battery power is low and need to be charged, the battery icon appears red.
  • If the battery is completely discharged, the NightWatch cannot be turned on immediately when the charger is connected. Allow a depleted battery to charge for a few minutes before turning on the NightWatch.
  • Using a power source other than the charger, such as a computer, may result in a slower charging speed.
  • The NightWatch can be used while it is charging, but it may take longer to fully charge the battery.
  • If the NightWatch receives an unstable power supply while charging, the touch screen may not function. If this happens, disconnect the NightWatch from the wireless charging dock.
  • While charging, the NightWatch may heat up. This is normal and should not affect the performance. If the battery gets hotter than usual, the charger may stop charging.
  • Avoid using a bent or damaged USB cable.
  • To conserve the battery life and general battery health of your NightWatch, it is recommended that the NightWatch is charged until it reaches 100% and then taken off the charger when possible.
  • If the NightWatch is not needed, then it is best to have it turned off until it is needed again. Leaving the NightWatch switched on and charging for extended periods of time can risk causing harm to the battery. The health of all batteries will slowly deplete over time due to general wear and tear caused by general use and charging processes; however, you can help slow this process by only having the device turned on or charging when it needs charging.
  • On some occasions batteries may drain quickly even when the NightWatch is powered off. This is usually a sign of a hardware fault with the battery itself. If you continue to experience this, please contact Nexion Solutions tech support at 844-NIGHT10 (844-644-4810).
  • It is important to try and keep battery from falling below 20% charge as it could jeopardize the accuracy of the GPS location in the event the NightWatch has been activated.
  • When your device is fully charged, you will notice the Battery Icon has turned green. Once the charge is completed the icon will appear filled and have a percentage of 100%.

Troubleshooting and Frequently Asked Questions

What happens if I accidentally activate my NightWatch?

If the watch is activated by accidentally pressing the button or by fall detection, you will feel the short vibrations indicating the activation process has been initiated.
